GIVEAWAY: Inspiring Spaces

I am passionate about being inspired. When you're inspired, you are limitless. All the possibilities of the world are open, and you find ways to relish in the daydreams of endless potential. Creating inspiring spaces cultivates a little piece of possibility in your own home, which is valuable beyond measure. Creating a space that inspires you means you believe you can change the world, you can take on anything that comes your way, and you feel welcome, happy and your heart radiates. I've made a point to surround myself with items that inspire. I've even had people comment on my Instagram photos, sharing sentiments of how they enjoy the environment I intentionally put myself in. I encourage people to do the same-- a candle in a little corner, a plant whose shadows dance in the sunlight, or a favourite saying framed in calligraphy to encourage you in moments you feel [...]

Human Trafficking Prevention

Image found on Pinterest I’ve heard January be referred to as Human Trafficking Awareness month. As the beginning of research generally starts, I opened up Google and typed in ‘Human Trafficking Awareness Month.’ Upon skimming through the top few headlines one link in particular caught my eye. Posted by the White House, it was a letter that President Obama wrote announcing January 2014 to be National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Every part of me was filled with excitement. This is exactly what we need. Awareness is one thing, and a good thing, but prevention is where we should be focused after awareness has been reached. Once you are aware, there needs to be another step involved-- something practical and tangible and that, my friends, is Prevention. I know, I know. You might be thinking ‘How can I prevent slavery?’ You may not be actively involved in the sex [...]

Would You Like Some Birthday Cake?

What is more appropriate for a birthday than cake? Classic yet inspired, designed yet delicious, trendy yet rustic—Oh how I enjoy cake and the many varieties I can find! I’ve decided my little slice of the blogging world should really begin documenting the baking adventures I embark on.  This conclusion was reached after I considered my current pursuit of a career as a pastry chef and the world-changing dreams that come along with the new title.  Like I tend to frequently say, it’s best to use your passions to change the world and that is what I intend to do! The journey to accomplishing every dream starts with a step. My first step was to acquire employment in a bakery. Being an individual whose only experience baking were moments in the welcoming kitchens of friends and family, I was a little hesitant on my ‘hire-ability’ in this new field. To [...]

Stop Participating In The Problem

My name is Aelea and I am an addict. I am addicted to motivating, inspirational quotes cleverly placed on top of images of intriguing cityscapes, endless landscapes or any other generic beautiful thing that nature and creation has to offer. I'm not sure when my addiction started but it has been fed by clever videos in church, Pinterest, Facebook, and artsy friends. This addiction has taken over my "likes" on Instagram and Pinterest, and makes the photo album on my iPhone full of images I scroll through when I feel a need to be pumped up or left in wonder of the world around us. One main contributor to this addiction is a certain Facebook page called Pure Nourishment. It's literally a page where most of the posts are epic images with matching epic phrases to make you feel good, make you say "ha, so true" or images that you want to [...]

Are You Actually Dreaming Big?

Have you ever thought you were dreaming big only to find out you actually weren't? It's shocking, it's exciting, and it kinda weirds you out a bit. Welcome to my current state. Recently I took the plunge and have been sharing my ideas, visions, and goals with individuals I find to be worthy of such personal and important information. These spectacular individuals are those in mentor-like positions in my life. The select comrades vary from one who has literally mentored or supervised me during times of immense professional and personal growth, to one who has my faith life as one of the main filters our conversation passes through. It's a small, well rounded crew of individuals who really do have my best interest in mind-- which is exactly the environment you want when you are getting all personal! While sharing ideas and discussing what I see as the big, main, [...]

“Find What Speaks To You”

Have you seen the commercials on TV for for Pier 1 Imports? They are the cutest commercials where an individual is walking around the store and they hear something... It's generally a voice that is too cute for words and is saying something ridiculously relatable to the person who is doing the browsing. The individual sources the voice and it's an inanimate object that the person just has to take home now that they seem to have a wonderful bond. The tag line for the commercial is "Find what speaks to you." These commercials are... - Adorable - Make me want to shop at Pier 1 Imports (I'm such a sucker for clever marketing) - Speak to a greater truth in our lives I find that when God has something important to say to us-- something important for us to learn-- He brings the lesson to us in forms of [...]

The Inspiration of Conversation

I like to chat. Big surprise, I know. *hello sarcasm* I enjoy talking with friends, acquaintances, and just about anyone else I happen to randomly meet. You never know what kind of conversation you will have if you allow yourself to be open to the idea that every conversation, every word spoken, can change a life, change a heart, or even simply change a mood. Obviously you can't expect every single thing you say to change the world, or have a HUGE impact on someone, but if we spoke to others with the mindset that what we say has the potential to influence them I think we would choose our words more carefully and even just be pumped to talk to people! The first time I went to a night called Women of Beauty put on by Let Go, Let God ministries, one of the main points that stuck with [...]

“Where am I supposed to buy clothes?”

I was recently on vacation with my family in Hawaii. When I say family I mean my husband, mom, dad and two older brothers. The last "family vacation" we took was when I was 16 years old to Disney World. Needless to say, it was an interesting time to see how our personalities, interests and lifestyles meshed and, at times, didn't mesh. I'm sure we can all agree that people are in a state of constant development. Consistently growing, changing, evolving into the product of their beliefs and surroundings. Every person in my family is very different. It was quite interesting for us be together for just over a week, and I am consistently grateful for my husband being there as someone I could escape the generic "family craziness" with. While on this trip, you best believe my family is on the prowl for deals. You're on vacation-- you take [...]

Do Small Things With Great Love

"Do Small Things With Great Love." How wonderful does that sound? Doesn't that just inspire you, encourage you, and make you wish you were out somewhere this exact moment doing something so simple, but so love filled, it inspires others to do the same? The current screen saver on my phone is an image with those words. It's there as a constant reminder to find ways to do small things with great love for those I encounter on a day to day, and moment to moment, basis. I think sometimes we get caught up in what that "small thing" is that we are doing for someone. We think the act is too small, the gesture will go unnoticed, that it isn't 'good enough' of a blessing, that perhaps we are just doing it because we feel obligated because the screen saver on our phone is telling us to. From experience, [...]
