On This New Years Day

On this New Year’s Day…

I turned the kettle on to boil,

Took out a favourite mug gifted from a friend,

And asked myself which tea I was feeling like enjoying.

‘Drink the good tea’ echoed in my mind as if someone was saying it aloud.

My word of the year for 2024 was abundance, rooted in enjoying the luxuries of every day life, lingering on the good things, and saying yes to opportunities as they came my way. Living life with a lens of abundance instead of scarcity.

Scarcity says ‘save the tea’.

It says that I might never get a chance to have this nice tea again so save it and don’t drink it.

Keep it. Just in case.

Abundance says ‘savour the tea’.

It says to drink it and sip it slowly, enjoying each moment the flavour washes over your tongue and makes you a smile and warms you from the inside out.

Enjoy it.

Express gratitude for it.

Don’t take it for granted,

Acknowledge the gift of this beautiful moment where this tea sipped while engaging in prayer with God becomes a prayer in itself.

As the abundance of 2024 roots deep the intention for 2025 will slowly begin to emerge.

Inklings of ideas will give way to reflection over many cups of ‘the good tea’, which fill my tea shelf to overflowing from the kindness of a friend who gifted me many of ‘the good teas’ in December.

I am grateful for all the times I trained myself in 2024 for abundance and how God has shown up in this way through death and deepening community, joy and sorrow,  grief and love.

What an abundant life.

Here’s to 2025 ✨
