Discovering Lent
Yoga + Contemplation Full-Day Retreat

A day retreat embracing the lenten tradition of re-posturing our hearts towards Jesus while we awaken to the grace of spring-time renewal found in Easter.

Discovering Lent.

As the winter chill has set a longing for spring within us, so the season of Lent invites us into a sacred time of intentional longing and reflection as we count down the days until our sweet celebration of Easter.

What if we looked at the season of lent as so much more than ‘giving up chocolate for 40 days’ or a season of self-rejection?

What if we became curious about the lessons this season can teach us about ourselves, our attachments to the world and to Christ, and how we might embrace Lent as a time of deepening self-awareness and a deeper relationship with Christ?

Welcome to Discovering Lent, a full-day Yoga and Contemplation retreat inviting you to lean into the rhythms of the church and the wisdom of nature. Here, we embrace the lenten tradition of re-posturing our hearts towards Jesus while we awaken to the grace of spring-time renewal found in Easter.

Through soul-stirring reflection, intentional yoga and embodied practices, guided prayer, and moments of serene silence, you’ll be invited to embrace Lent’s sacred call to realign your priorities. Discover the grace of releasing disordered attachments and awaken to a deeper sense of aliveness, focusing on what truly matters as you journey with Jesus toward fresh renewal. From Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday to Good Friday and Easter Sunday, Discovering Lent offers a space for curiosity, discovery, and transformation, inviting you to experience Lent as a season of sacred formation and profound grace.

What is Lent?

Lent is a 40-day journey leading to Easter, centred on humility, fasting, simplicity, almsgiving, and lament. It is the fast in preparation for the feast.

Lent invites us to formation, not forfeiting—an opportunity to confront our self-sufficiency and disordered attachments. Jesus meets us in the darkness, guiding us deeper so we are ready to receive a fresh grace and rise anew in our spiritual spring.

  • Yoga

Enjoy a more active 'soul care yoga' practice to open the day, and a restorative practice in the afternoon, guided by 500hr yoga instructors rooted in the Christian faith while embracing the yogic tradition.

  • Discovery

Discover the abundant life Jesus invites us to at Easter by way of the lenten season in a safe space designed to foster curiosity and wonder.

  • Contemplation

Through guided practices, you’ll rest in the quiet, attuned to God’s presence, savouring the experience of simply being with the Divine during times of sobering awareness and joyful celebration.

Location: Camp Widjiwagan.

Genius loci is the spirit of a place. Describing more than physical geography, it includes the intangible quality of a place, its particular ambiance. "It refers to every single element converging together to create holy ground: the way the sun shines and the breeze hits your skin along with the smell of the earth beneath you. The genius loci of a place is unique because it exists nowhere else on the planet but in that sacred place." - Kat Armas from Sacred Belonging.

Located next to Percy Priest Lake just outside Nashville, Tennessee, tucked away in a quiet cedar grove, Cedar Lodge at Camp Widjiwagan will be our safe-haven for our day of lenten discovery.

The goals of the camp, owned by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, are to provide a safe, fun, magical and educational experience for all guests. Their demonstration of the Y's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility reverberate through the space, creating a welcoming environment from the moment you drive down the winding road with towering trees on either side of you, to the crisp, unmistakable smell of God’s creation welcoming you to a natural space made for the retreat you are about to experience.

Our late winter retreat will have you enjoying indoor spaces, and the use of outdoor spaces as weather allows and you desire. During times of silence you can walk down by the water, wander through the trees, cozy yourself by the roaring outdoor fire, or enjoy the sanctuary of the cedar lodge for time of quiet reflection or deepening connection with new friends.

We acknowledge that Nashville, Tennessee, and the surrounding areas are the original lands and waters of the Cherokee, Shawnee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Creek peoples.
