NOURISH

There are people in your life who are encouragers.

They are the ones who want to see you flourish, who support you with ideas and help when you need it and who are there to come alongside you the days you don’t know what to do next and tell you it’s okay, that you’ve got this and that you can keep going.

There are a few people in my life that are encouragers and I honestly can’t imagine life without them. The first is my friend Ashley. A co-worker-turned-biggest-cheerleader, if Ashley has an idea for a yoga event, she shares it with me and allows me to springboard ideas off of her. She has continually encouraged me even before I took my yoga teacher training, nudging me to apply to teach workshops and calling out the good and beautiful things in the work I am doing when I seem blind to it.

Ashley and I had an ‘over the internet’ dreaming session one day where we chatting over Slack and throwing ideas around for events that would be fun. Classes based on moon cycles, seasons and other fun things came up and the idea for Sunrise Yoga made an appearance. I don’t remember who said it first and it really doesn’t even matter. The seed was planted and a sunrise yoga class was stuck in my mind.

I allowed this idea of sunrise yoga to weave its way through my brain and it eventually evolved to morning yoga and brunch... A space for nourishment, a place where you would connect to nature and enjoy a delicious meal outdoors in the morning before the rest of the world wakes up.

With this idea in mind, I connected with my friend Kayla and asked her if she would like to be part of this event. Kayla and I, as typical women just over 30, first found each other over Instagram. We followed each other and one day Kayla asked if we could hang out. We met at Fourth in the Exchange in Winnipeg and became fast friends-- both people who love Jesus, writing and sharing the experiences life brings us. Kayla has been another one of those supportive friends, who even lent me her cell phone one day when my phone overheated at an outdoor yoga event I was doing social media at. The thing internet quotes are made of, if someone lets you borrow their phone for an entire day at an Instagram-worthy event, you know that’s true friendship.

Kayla is all about food in the best way. She creates the most beautiful and delicious looking meals and loves using food as medicine. She is studying to become a Certified Nutrition Consultant in Pregnancy and Postpartum and it’s possibly the best fit for her that I could imagine. When the idea of food came into the picture for this event, I knew it would be Kayla who could bring to life a meal that was stunning, nourishing and appetizing.

NOURISH seeks to nourish your mind, body and spirit through an outdoor all-levels holy yoga class followed by a vegan, gluten-free zero-waste brunch. Each portion of the event is intentionally curated with the theme NOURISH to nurture a deeper connection to self, nature, community and your faith.

Colossians 2:7
"Let your roots grow down deeply in Him, and let Him build you up on a firm foundation. Be strong in the faith, just as you were taught and always spill over with thankfulness"

As we grow in our faith, we realize more and more that as we overflow with thankfulness, we naturally gravitate towards intentionally being good stewards of the life we've been given. Becoming a good steward involves taking responsibility and caring for yourself, your relationships, the Earth and trying to become a force of positive change in every place you find yourself. We may not do this perfectly, we may be figuring it out as we go, but we know with a firm foundation of Truth, we can consciously NOURISH ourselves, our community, and the place we live.

I am so excited to be hosting this event with Kayla. It is designed with you in mind to be a morning that feeds your body and soul, that makes you feel alive and refreshed and that inspires you to live a life with intention.
